Psychoeducation at a glance

To practice their profession, psychoeducators must have a 2nd cycle university degree in psychoeducation and must be a member of the Ordre des psychoéducateurs et psychoéducatrices du Québec (OPPQ). They must then continuously do training to maintain their skills and acquire new ones.

Psychoeducators can work with clients of all ages, from toddlers to seniors.

Psychoeducators cannot give a diagnosis, but they give their clinical impressions on a situation.

Psychoeducators favour action in the field and intervene in the daily life of the person, whether at home, in a school, or other.

Psychoeducators help people who are experiencing adaptation difficulties. To do this, they conduct an assessment that focuses on a person’s and their environment’s strengths and needs. Once completed, they set clear goals aimed at helping the person better adapt to their situation. They then accompany them in achieving their goals through psychoeducational activities and concrete tools.
